Virginia Humanities at WHRO

About WHRO Grants

Serving Hampton Roads. Launched in July 2024, Virginia Humanities at WHRO is a new partnership that will amplify stories from across Hampton Roads and illustrate the ways the humanities bring communities together and foster dialogue and understanding.

• Awards up to $6,000  
• Application Opens: Friday, January 1, 2027 at 9:00 AM
• Application Deadline: Friday, April 30, 2027 at 11:59 PM
• Decisions announced: Monday, June 14, 2027
• Budget period is July 1, 2027 to June 30, 2028

Eligibility 

• Applicants must be located within the 21 local school divisions which define the WHRO Hampton Roads service area.
• Applicants must have up-to-date nonprofit status.
• Applicants may not apply for more than one Virginia Humanities and/or WHRO grant at the same time.
• Applicants may not apply if they have an open Virginia Humanities and/or WHRO grant. 
• Grantees must complete a final report and have it approved before applying for a new grant.
• Grantees may receive funding for the same project, including planning and/or implementation grants in two different grant cycles, but not for a third time.
